Fashion Imitates Art, Art Imitates Life: Our Top Ten Posts from Fashion Blog "Miss Moss"
Whether it is accidental or deliberate, fashion imitates art. We stumbled across a South African blog, Miss Moss, that proves our theory.
The blogger juxtaposes street style snapshots and runway looks with paintings, costumes from period films, vintage design, and even pottery in an inventive series called "Color Comparisons" in which she creates side by side comparisons of Mary Katrantzou's creations with decorative oriental prints on ceramics.
Here are our top ten favorite pairings by Miss Moss.
Ever come across an old photo of your mom--you know, a photo from before you even existed--and thought, "Damn, my mom looks good" and then "OMG I want that whole outfit"?
Piper Weiss did, so she started a blog called My Mom the Style Icon where she posts photos of stylish moms that date from the 1920s through the 1980s, tells the stories of the moms in the photos, and offers up hilarious commentary on their outfits. That blog is now a book, and last night Coach threw a party to celebrate its release--just in time for mother's day. (Seriously, buy it now for your mom).
True to her mom-style obsession, Weiss, who by day is an editor at Yahoo! Shine (you should read her stuff there because it's hilarious), wore a vintage Pierre Cardin dress that was her mom's in the 70s that she gave what she calls a "a shoulder pad-ectomy" and had shortened. Mama Weiss, the inspiration for the book, was there too, looking stylish as ever.
There are exceptions to every rule, but it seems style is more often than not passed down from mothers to child. So we brainstormed with Weiss to come up with the ten of the most fashionable mother and daughter pairs (and one mother-son pair), and she offered her two cents on each stylish duo. What other stylish mother daughter pairs did we leave off?
Fashion Month is officially over. Whew, what a ride!
Sure, we saw some killer collections, but what about all the good stuff that went on off the runway?
From an unlikely front-row-duo, to a serious fashion show mishap, check our our ten moments from Fashion Month that had nothing to do with the clothes.
Pippa the Party Girl: Though we love us some Kate Middleton, it's obvious that Pippa is the fun sister. The younger Middleton works as a party planner, and judging from a picture floating around the internet, she's got plenty of partying experience under her belt. The image shows Pippa, wearing only a bra on top (her body looks ridic, natch), dancing with a shirtless boy. In the background, tables are filled with bottles of booze. {Huffington Post}
Knockoffs at Tiffany's: Tiffany & Co. has a new collection of jewelry that resembles a thin twisted rope tied into a dainty bow. The company is usually the victim of counterfeit goods, but this time, it looks like Tiffany's might be the culprit. The designs share a strikingly close resemblance to Brooklyn-based designer Kiel Mead's collection of "Forget Me Not" accessories that he first produced in 2005. {UnBeige}
Kate Moss Gets an Exhibit in New York: Beginning on May 17th, the Danziger Projects gallery in New York will transform into a Kate Moss shrine. The exhibit, The Moss Portfolio and Other Stories, will feature 11 famous portraits of the model as well as images of Moss before she was famous. {ELLE}
