All I know is---we’re still talking about her.
While everyone was out at parties last night, I was sitting on my couch scrolling through Twitter and watching the VMAs--appropriately, I suppose--when WWD tweeted this late-breaking news flash. Lady Gaga, in a deal that was completed last week, has finally signed a long-term licensing agreement with Coty to create fragrances under her name. The first one will launch in Spring 2012. Good gravy. What will this smell like? I actually hope it smells weird and funky. And the bottles better be spectacular. I often forget to wear a scent (and I have quite a collection), but I love how they look all lined up on the counter. What do you think the top notes will be? Hairspray? Rubber?
For the last few months Lady Gaga has not figured that prominently in our news feeds or in our thoughts--the occasional concert ban notwithstanding. But suddenly she's everywhere! We learned yesterday that Mother Monster already shot the cover of Vogue's September issue, a move that should help Vogue sell issues (her March cover was the mag's number two best-seller of the year) and help Gaga sell her new perfume. Ah, that elusive perfume! We've been hearing about that damn potion for almost two years now, and as we get closer to the launch date, rumors continue to fly. Here's what we know:
Deborah Lippmann, the famous manicurist whose Lippmann Collection nail polishes are beloved by celebrities everywhere, spoke about spring beauty trends at a Nordstrom event last night. First, Deborah confirmed what we already noticed after NYFW: the almond-shaped nail is trendy right now. Also, look for opaque nudes and beiges this spring. (She happens to have a fabulous one in her collection, called “Naked.”) And come fall, gray will be all over the place. Not greige. Gray. Deborah does Lady Gaga’s nails/talons, which must be quite a project, and she had some stories to tell. For the infamous egg stunt at this year’s Grammys, Deborah talked Gaga out of “big, long, jeweled ghetto nails” in favor of simple...yellow ones. The last thing Gaga did before getting shut in her pod was stick her hands through a hole in the top and yell, “I love my yellow nails!” This prompted Deborah to get on the phone with the factory to speed up production of the color. “Yellow Brick Road” will now be available in April.
We’re glad to see that while Gaga’s style and hair constantly evolve, she still embraces her signature money shot: the exposed ass. The picture at left, which we saw hints of a few months ago, is a promotional photo for her just released Born This Way album. Coinciding with the release of Gaga’s long-anticipated album is an in-depth Rolling Stone interview, which you’ll be able to read this Friday. The mag published some juicy excerpts, making us excited to read the entire thing. -Some sources of inspiration for Gaga?
