Pitti Uomo and Pitti W, the renown trade shows that take place twice-yearly in Florence, will welcome Rodarte's Kate and Laura Mulleavy as well as Band of Outsiders' Scott Sternberg as this season's guest designers. (The next edition of Pitti Uomo + Pitti W takes place June 14-17.)
With both labels based in Los Angeles, it's an interesting choice on Pitti's part. “Rodarte and Band of Outsiders are two very different design talents,” said Lapo Cianchi, director of communication & events at Pitti Immagine, in a statement. “But they both connect us to the mythology of Western America: Los Angeles, where all three designers live and work; film, which they are obviously interested in; and the expanses of the interstate highway that runs through California or heads into the desert of Nevada. The European curiosity about California culture and the landscape played an important role in Pitti’s decision to invite both designers to Florence at the same time.”
We had the opportunity to attend January's event where Gareth Pugh served as guest designer, screening a film on the ceiling of an ancient church. It was pretty magical. But we're sure the Mulleavy sisters and Mr. Sternberg will come up with something equally as cinematic. Congrats to the designers!
