Former CFDA fashion funder Irene Neuwirth debuted her first ever diamond collection last night at Barneys. Neuwirth, whose jewelry designs feature colorful gems outlined delicately with precious metals and pave stones, told us she felt is was time to "step it up." Hence, the diamonds. She also worked in Peruvian opals, chrysophase, sapphires and Rose of France.
"This is her couture moment," said Simon Doonan, Barneys Creative Ambassador-at-Large.
Several of Neuwirth's super hip celebrity friends were on hand to help her celebrate her "couture moment" including Michelle Williams, Joanna Newsom, Busy Phillips, Harvey Weinstein and SNL's Andy Samberg. If you read Andy Samberg and thought, "Wha? What's he doing there?" he goes way back with Neuwirth--all the way back to what he called "unofficial Jew camp" (that, and he dates Newsom). Neuwirth confirmed "It was called Camp Skylight." But Samberg is also a fan of Neuwirth's creations, so much so that he told us he's special ordered a "bejeweled chastity belt, mission impossible style." Wonder how Newsom feels about that...
The collection is available exclusively at Barney's and last night's event benefited CFDA’s Fashion + Friends for Japan.
