The Beckhams are already at the top of the earnings food chain, and now they’re poised to go even further. While he already has two fragrances with Coty, David Beckham is launching a third in September called Homme by David Beckham.
And now he’s taking it further than just fragrances--Beckham’s going to be a full-on lifestyle brand. He and his business partner, Simon Fuller (of American Idol and Spice Girls-producing fame), have an empire in mind. “David and I have a number of ambitious and exciting ideas in development across a broad range of categories," Fuller told WWD. "The next 10 years will see David evolve into being recognized, not just as an iconic sports figure, but also as an important entrepreneur.” Beckham recognizes that his career is winding down, though he says he plans to play soccer for a few more years.
In addition to the fragrance, Beckham’s next launch is a men’s bodywear line. His now legendary work for Emporio Armani speaks for itself--the man can move underwear. He knows it, too, acknowledging that the sales bump that Armani got as a result of his ads inspired him to do his own line. He told WWD, “It proved to me that there is a real market for good-looking, well-made men’s bodywear.” (You could easily substitute “hot models” for “bodywear.”)
While David’s “not sure my mum will be too happy seeing a billboard image of me in underwear again,” we’re certainly happy about it. And we're sure we're not alone.
