Franca Sozzani took to her Vogue Italia blog this week to introduce a new online project. The self-professed hater and, then, lover of blogs is planning to launch a new channel to Vogue.it, which currently has four: V Talents, V Curvy, V TV and yes, V Black. In her post announcing the project, she is as unfiltered as ever.
Here is how she describes the new channel:
As from September a new project will be launched, or better, a new channel. And for all those who love to write this channel will be ideal. We will be speaking about fashion, photography, designers, fabrics, accessories, purses, shoes, jewelry, and hairstyles. And more, fashion, cinema and art, news from the world always linked to fashion, customs, traditions and the history of a Country.
So basically...everything? And yes, she is crowd sourcing for contributors, which wouldn't be that weird if she wasn't making the entire pitching and editing process public on her blog. On Tuesday, she wrote a post explaining the project and asking those interested to put their story proposals in the comments section. Naturally there are a lot of readers itching for a Vogue Italia byline, because there are already 10 pages of proposals on topics ranging from the "history of makeup" to the rise of "queer fashion" in India to the influence of third world culture on western style.
Today Sozzani posted a list of what appears to be every single proposal from the comments section with her own edits and suggestions. Yes, the editor-in-chief of Italian Vogue actually took the time to respond to every reader's pitch.
If anything, Sozzani has always been an advocate of change in the industry and like the "Curvy" and "Black" channels, this sounds like it will probably raise some eyebrows. And if you don't like it, she'll tell you where you can go. Want to contribute? You have until next Tuesday to comment your proposal.
