The internet's been abuzz this week with news of actors chopping off their hair for their art.
But it's an honored tradition for actresses to go short for a role, and the beautiful thing about hair is that it grows back. Sometimes a short crop can even make a career: look at Mia Farrow who let Vidal Sassoon chop her hair for Rosemary's Baby. And Agyness Deyn didn't get any attention in the modeling world until she went short.
To celebrate the tradition of celebs going short--whether for a role or because of a life change--click through to see a roundup of everything from totally bald to the cutest of pixies.

Demi Moore: In 1997 Demi famously shaved her head for GI Jane, and still looked amazing.
Cate Blanchett: Cate took a razor to her scalp for her role in 2000's Heaven. Her facial features work with shorter styles.
Natalie Portman: Natalie shaved it all off in 2005 for V for Vendetta. She's very lucky that she has a nice symmetric head.
Sienna Miller: Sienna took the shears to her hair in 2006 to portray Edie Sedgwick in Factory Girl.
Halle Berry: Halle cut her hair just to be different, and now it's her signature.
Michelle Williams: She cut her pixie (she's done a few different versions) when she decided to go back into the limelight after Heath Ledger died. She changes up the color and shape frequently and it works for her.
Hayden Panettiere: She shocked everyone when she showed up on the red carpet in 2010 with a severe short cut.
Keira Knightley: Keira is the poster girl for incredible short hair.
Carey Mulligan: Carey had to chop her hair off after incurring damage from too much dyeing. Rumor has it that she's still battling unhealthy hair as as result.
Ginnifer Goodwin: Ginnifer Goodwin loves her chop so much that she makes sure she gets a wig contract in movies so that she can have her hair however she wants it.
Emma Watson: It looks like Emma's growing out her pixie now, but she chopped it out of rebellion for being forced to have long hair for the Harry Potter franchise.
Matt Damon and Jake Gyllenhall: Guys do it, too. Both just went bald for films they're shooting.
