Another style icon and hip musician are getting hitched.
In what promises to be a slightly more under-the-radar ceremony than Mosstock, filmmaker Sofia Coppola will wed her longtime boyfriend and father of her two children, Phoenix frontman Thomas Mars (née Croquet), in Bernalda, Italy tomorrow night. Though, like Mosstock, the ceremony will take place at a family-owned villa in a small village. Here's everything we know, including dress speculation:
Bernalda is located in the Southern part of Italy and is where Coppola's ancestors emigrated from. Sofia's father, Francis Ford, who you may have heard of, bought a 19th century villa there called Palazzo Margherita, which the family has reportedly turned into a five-star resort replete with "10 suites, a swimming pool, a cinema and extensive gardens," according to the Telegraph.
The event will be decidedly less star-studded and publicized than some of this summer's other weddings, which we like. There will reportedly be only 70 guests and among the few celebrities expected to attend are Sofia's cousins Jason Schwartzman and Nicholas Cage, as well as Robert DeNiro, George Lucas, Al Pacino and Steven Spielberg--though some reports say Nicholas Cage won't be there due to a work conflict. But, to remind everyone that a famous person's wedding is taking place, Francis Ford Coppola's great nephew, Gaetano Russo, will apparently project scenes from both his and his daughter's films onto buildings throughout the village.
THE DRESS: The only leads on dress designers are Marc Jacobs and Azzedine Alaïa. Sofia and Marc have had a longtime designer/muse relationship, which is why we were surprised by rumors that Alaïa would do the honors after Sofia and her daughter Romy attended the designer's couture show in July. Interestingly, Sofia (like Kate Moss) wore a gown by John Galliano, whose former job Marc is up for, to her first wedding to Spike Jonze in 1993. And, the wedding was featured in Vogue's September issue that year. Nothing has been reported regarding post-wedding coverage by a magazine, but we wonder if an Alaïa gown will keep Sofia out of Vogue due to Azzedine and Anna's longstanding feud. Regardless, we have no doubt that her dress will be amazing and perfect.
Sofia and her fam have been there all week and judging by recent photos of her playing at the beach with her kids and attending the San Bernardino festival, she seems totally relaxed and happy. Also, her body is ridic for having two kids and I now need a strapless black one-piece swimsuit.
Anyway, we think it's about time these two got hitched--not just because they've been together forever and have two children (Kris Kardashian: there is hope for Scott and Kourtney!), but also because we happen to think they are one of the most adorable couples ever and I will feel better knowing that they're in it for the long haul. They are just both so talented and effortlessly cool and always look so relaxed and kinda tired in this cool, European way, you know? So, here is a photographic look back at the super chic couple. Enjoy, and watch this space for updates on the dress, assuming we find out and survive THE HURRICANE.
