Donna Karan Fall 2012: Suited Up and Singing Along to 'I'm Every Woman'
Building on her wo-man theme from pre-fall, Donna Karan sent out a masculine-edged tailored collection for fall built entirely around the suit. Sportwear saw pinstripes and doublefaced cashmere pleated and molded to the body on dresses while blazers were strong shouldered over knee-length skirts. A few of the jackets--especially a double breasted one--looked a bit gangster, a bit mobster, which makes sense because Donna Karan's woman is empowered and not to be messed with. This is not to say of course, that she's not sexy, too. Evening wear was a play on the tux: Shiny black crepe satin jackets over pants and floor-length gowns, the classic white dress shirt was tucked into simple black silk chiffon skirts with cummerbunds, and collars and cuffs appeared on sheer bodycon cocktail dresses. All of it sophisticated, elegant, and downright dapper--each look was topped off with a jaunty mini fedora courtesy of Stephen Jones.
The celeb-packed front row--including campaign girls Ashley Greene (who has the shiniest hair ever) and Adriana Lima--as well as Emmy Rossum and Rose McGowan (who was rushed in at the last minute and seemed freshly injected) nodded approvingly as each look came out. When the finale started set to Chaka Khan's "I'm Every Woman," Rossum and Greene danced in their seats, Rossum singing along.
