Well, that was fast! Since going on sale at midnight on February 5, Jason Wu for Target has almost completely sold out--and over 11,000 items are already on eBay.
Though this time the online launch went a little smoother than Missoni for Target's infamous site meltdown (but not without a few hiccups--read our first account later today), items still went lightening speed quick. We checked this morning and there is currently only one item still available online--this pleated blue top.
Brick-and-mortar didn't fare much better, with most locations selling out of some items within minutes. But the worst story we've heard of yet is the midtown Miami store whose complete stock of the collection was bought by a couple with the intent to resell, as the video below, sent to us by a tipster, shows. Needless to say shoppers were none too happy with the offending couple--or Target employees, for that matter, for letting the buyout happen-- especially since the couple didn't even attempt to disguise the fact that they'd be reselling all the goods.
One commenter Seuny, wrote on the youtube page, "I cant believe this particular Target allowed them to do that. Even online they had restrictions on how many of the same items you could buy."
Another, BeautifulDreamerK, wrote: "It's disrespectful to the loyal consumers and to Jason Wu, himself. Those are beautiful pieces, not money makers. People need to use something called 'common courtesy'-it's a shame not many people have this anymore."
Others called for a boycott on resellers, saying that people should avoid buying Jason Wu for Target items on eBay to discourage this kind of thing from happening in the future.
We have to say we're pretty surprised that Target let two people buy their full stock (according to comments on the YouTube posting, that's $7,000 worth) of the collection--but could a boycott on resellers actually happen? Judging by the number of items already on eBay, the problem is certainly one that will need addressing soon. We've reached out to Target and are waiting to hear back.
