Only Michael Kors could pull a front row packed with of-the-moment starlets (Amber Heard, Paula Patton, Jessica Alba), of-the-moment stylists (Brad Goreski sitting a few seats down from Rachel Zoe), established A-listers (Smash stars Debra Messing and Angelica Houston), and newswomen (Kate Couric). With a crowd like that, it's a given looks from Kors fall 2012 collection will show up on a red carpet soon. We spied Brad Goreski and his client Jessica Alba 'ooh'ing and 'aah'ing over the crimson and black crystal beaded stretch jersey gowns that closed the show (while Alba's husband Cash Warren sat captive in the middle). Zoe looked pretty stoked about the slinky finale dresses too. Could we have just seen an Oscar dress?
But enough about the evening wear. The sportswear, Kors' bread and butter, was all cozy and ruggedly chic. The first looks out were even a bit lumberjack-like, with buffalo plaid on wool and cashmere blanket coats, bias skirts and trousers. The color palette didn't stray from reds and neutrals. But the rich variety in textures--leather, tweed, mohair, fur, satin and lace made up for all that.
No hole-y cashmere or cringey 'Afriluxe' themes here as in last season--just classic, terrific Kors. And this stellar show following the news, according to WWD, of a single-day 27% stock price leap, Kors has got to be feeling pretty good right now. Even in spite of the fact that he was "Nanooked" (thank you Tyler for pointing this perfect Unzipped reference) by Marc Jacobs with those oversized fur hats.
