LONDON-Is every it-girl in London blonde and named Pixie or Peaches? It really seems that way. Anyway, a few of them were at the Temperley show last night, including singer Pixie Lott and Peaches Geldof, who was very pregnant. Minnie Driver was there, too, and it was a relief to see a brunette. That other P-named girl, Pippa Middleton, was a no-show this season, after sparking such excitement last season when she slid into the front row moments before the show, that even the pit photographers started murmuring and all trained their cameras on her. But we're pretty sure she's already plotting which fall Temperley frock she'll wear to her next party.
Temperley's collection this season brought to mind one word: rich. Think lace on top of brocade with a side of fur and a sparkly necklace topping it all off. Alice Temperley's inspiration this season was religious paintings done during the Renaissance, and the generally opulent aesthetic look of that period. She definitely nailed it.
A classic black and gold pairing was the undercurrent that held everything together. Throw in some brocade and a lot of embroidery and you have a modern day Michaelangelo muse. Shapes were generally demure, with fit-and-flare dresses and high necklines. Temperley threw in a few slim leather looks to up the sexy ante, in the form of slim skirt suits. As if all the previous wasn't enough, many of the models were wearing large Cossack-style fur hats. We personally loved the jaunty little cheetah print pillboxes, and look forward to seeing them on an it-girl or two next season.
