Whew, we made it!
Yep, fashion month is finally over and while right now the whole thing feels like one big blur of taxi cab rides, celebrity sightings, unbelievably sore feet and, of course, beautiful clothing--there were a ton of memorable, big stories to come out of it.
From the Raf Simons/Jil Sander bombshell, to the naked hat fashion show, we recap the biggest moments from fashion week Fall 2012.
Karlie Kloss Skips NYFW There was a collective of groan of disappointment when
The Dior Rumors Continue... Over the past year, there has certainly been no shortage of Dior rumors--just read our complete guide on the subject to see what we're talking about. However, fashion week seemed to kick the gossiping up a notch and we counted that no less than six rumors were reported in the past four weeks (including the most recent one that Marc Jacobs is, after all this time, actually going to get the job.) Sigh.
Kanye West: Second Time's the Charm? After his debut collection last season caused such a stir--and not in a good way--all eyes were on what Kanye West would cook up for his second time on the show circuit. So how did Yeezy fare? To sum it up: The reviews were mixed, the front row was packed with A-listers (like Kim K and Jay-Z), and the accessories were actually pretty stylish. Oh, and there were go-karts.
Alber Celebrates Ten Years With Lanvin, Makes Our Hearts Melt Alber rang in his ten-year with Lanvin, by giving us a show to remember: There were cupcakes for all, gorgeous clothes and, our favorite part by far, Alber did a rendition of Que Sera at the finale. Seriously, could he be any cuter?
Music and Fashion Go Hand In Hand This was definitely the season of music and muses. Lana Del Rey got a Mulberry bag named after her, while Azealia Banks ruled the front row at Mulberry, Topshop Unique and Kanye West (playing the latter two labels' after parties). Zebra Katz's catchy, haunting "Ima Read" had everyone obsessed (and singing the word 'bitch') in Paris.
Model Down! Despite being super sexy, Giuseppe Zanotti's shoes for Anthony Vaccarello were so perilously high that one poor model had to be escorted off the runway after stumbling multiple times. No pain no gain?
Non-traditional Runway Shows Models rode escalators, conveyor belts, a train, dodged crystal formations, disco danced and much more during runway shows that were anything but typical. While it made for a fun spectacle, the question remains whether it will help sell clothes.
