Titanic hits theaters tomorrow for the first time in about fifteen years--though this time the drama, action and the infamous iceberg will be bigger thanks to 3-D technology. But that's not the only thing that's grown--the film's stars, Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio's fame has also sky-rocketed since the movie first hit theaters. And according to Winslet, Leo has, um, grown in other ways as well. The English actress said of the film, "We do look very different, we’re older. Leo’s 37, I’m 36 – we were 21 and 22 when we made that film. You know, he’s fatter now – I’m thinner.” ...You said it, Kate, not us!
Check out our round up of Leo and Kate through the years– through thick and thin, in both weight and fashion. Has Kate’s style stayed afloat, and did Leo’s sink with the ship? Click through to see what we think!
Jack and Rose Leo and Kate make quite the pair at the 1998 Oscars, with Leo in his polo-type suit and Kate channeling a vamp-- in the most literal sense of the word.
Yowza, Kate's outfit is truly a sight to behold: I mean leather, python and insanely pointy toe heels? Amazing. Leo is still in his broody-yet-baby-faced phase, and we're honestly sort of digging that risky black-and-navy suit combo.
Clearly one for skin (both the animal-kind and her own), Kate went a bit over-the-top Angelina with this leather dominatrix get-up-- and lest we forget, everyone's must-have of the year, the pashmina. Even cozying up with the world's hottest supermodel didn't seem to help Leo's fledgling fashion sense: Things seemed to be going downhill for the actor, whose off-duty style consisted of cuffed sweatpants and a greasy ponytail. Yeck.
Leo proved that with the help of a haircut and collared shirt, he could still clean up nicely. Still, he's already looking a bit more like Jack Dawson's uncle than the scrapping young Third Classer himself. And compared to that last racy ensemble, Kate looks practically headed for church in her frumpy blazer and wide leg pants-- though she's curiously misplaced her bra and/or shirt.
In '03, Kate was involved in a serious peroxide mishap that left her looking like a homeless club kid for a time. Kidding! She was just filming Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Leo went crazy casual in a zip up jacket and jeans-- and it looks like that famous Jack hair swoop is nearly making an appearance...
Kate over did it a bit with this Tinkerbell-esque frock, which was only made mildly more acceptable due to the fact she wore it to promote Finding Neverland. Leo clearly tried to make up for his lack of sleep with the overuse of John Freida Beach Waves product.
This blue satin dress Kate wore to the Screen Actors Guild Awards was just screaming for that Heart of the Ocean necklace. At the Oscars, this slicked-back Leo looked like a debonaire DILF-to-be next to Gisele (who, despite appearing otherwise, was not five months along at the time). ...What could have been... sigh.
Following his role in The Departed, Leo finally lost the greasy hair swoop... and all the world rejoiced. And he was nice enough to let Kate take the remainder of his Beach Waves collection, as pictured here.
By '07, Kate had really come into her own fashion-wise with this mint green gown. Leo looked a little worse for the wear when he reunited with his old on-screen flame, who had since gone platinum. That gelled swoop is certainly a fighter.
In '08, a super-slim, bronzed-up Kate got in on the bandage dress trend and nearly gave everyone another glimpse of her French girls. Conversely, Leo looked a little bloated while he gave his support to environmental causes. We'll put this one down to natural gas. Heh!
Can you say 'perfection'? Well we'll say it for you: Per-fec-tion. Kate and Leo looked probably better than their old-selves following the release of their co-headlining film Revolutionary Road.
Leo baby, whaa happened?? While Kate looked the picture of Old Hollywood glam at the Oscars, Leo started looking, well... just plain old. Sorry, we couldn't resist. Here he is petting his motionless quoiff, questioning which of his lifestyle choices have possibly affected his puffy post-Titanic visage.
Several cases of severe rubbernecking were reported when our Kate sported this optical illusion Stella McCartney dress last year, which further highlighted her fab figure. Leo was too busy grooming his questionable facial hair and hitting the tanning booth between hair foil sessions to notice-- That swoop takes a long time to set!
