Can't afford those iconic red soles? Wear a Louboutin lipstick instead: Christian Louboutin is launching a full beauty collection! The line, called Christian Louboutin Beauté, will be produced with New York-based beauty company Batallure Beauty, and is expected to hit shelves in late 2013, WWD is reporting.
As you'd expect, this is going to be a high-end, luxury line and will have "global distribution." This isn't a new idea apparently--he's been approached by many companies over the years about doing beauty. Those red soles are just begging to be made into nail lacquer and lipstick. (The recent trend of Louboutin manis, where the underside of the nail is painted red, was a thing a few months ago--Adele famously sported one at the Grammys this year.)
So what can we expect form the collection? Louboutin isn't saying yet. He told WWD rather vaguely the collection would be "very constructed, quite different and unexpected." Here's a hint: He was inspired by the bust of Nefertiti that is housed at the Neues Museum in Berlin (at right). "It's the most beautiful thing," he told WWD. "I stayed like an hour just looking at the bust. It's a perfect bauty and the makeup is quite perfect."
Robin Burns, the co-founder of Batallure Beauty, has been a long-time Louboutin fan, and owns "more than a dozen" pairs of his shoes. She said that she saw an opportunity there. "He was really the only fashion designer with high success and high visibility that has not yet entered the beauty arena," she said. "He pushes boundaries, and that's exciting to us." Us, too!
