Championing new lines and labels is a part of Barneys New York’s DNA, so what better place to celebrate the launch of Costello Tagliapietra’s new diffusion line, C&T than on the department store’s recently-renovated 8th floor?
The new line, which is exclusive to the retailer, is a take on Costello’s best of, modified to suit a larger breadth of consumers. “Our collection is really a creative outlet for us, and its customer is primarily custom-order,” Robert Tagliapietra explained, “This forces you to think in a way that’s more accessible, it makes you find a way to reach a broader audience, but our essence is still at the core of it.”
And when he says "essence" he means it--the resemblance between the duo’s signature line and C&T was remarkable, and they even used their signature air-dye technology on a few select prints. “The actual dying process isn’t what costs money, it’s the fabric," Costello said. "And because we are creating this collection at a higher volume, we were able to use some luxury textiles."
The evening’s host, model Anne Vyalitsyna, was more than elated at the new collection’s striking similarities, “From what I’ve seen, it’s really not that different, but that’s why I think it’s so amazing. People who weren’t able to afford their collection are now able to buy this,” she explained, “I saw them put their heart and soul into the whole thing, so you are getting the best of the best at a lower price.”
