The child support battle between Linda Evangelista and her former flame and PPR chief François-Henri Pinault hit the courts yesterday in New York City, and the exes have already started in with the mudslinging. According to the New York Daily News , Evangelista's lawyers told the court that "[Pinault] suggested [Evangelista] terminate the pregnancy." Yikes.
Pinault's spokesperson denied that he ever told her to have an abortion, and said that he told her, "I will take my responsibility." If that's true, why hasn't he paid any child support? "She didn't ask and I didn't offer," he said.
The child is now five years old and had been solely supported by Evangelista, who is worth about $8 million. In 2010 she had a contract with L'Oreal which ended, along with, presumably, a nice income. Evangelista's lawyer said she looked to Pinault for support after that contract ended, with the view of "looking to continue the lifestyle that Augie’s had.” Pinault apparently is willing to do this, but the point of contention is the amount of money Evangelista is asking for: $46,000 a month, which includes one full time and one part time nanny, and around-the-clock bodyguards (which is something that Pinault's daughter with Salma Hayek, Valentina, has.)
Evnagelista's lawyers claim that she's not actually asking for $46,000 for month. "This is how a nice person gets her reputation ruined,” Evangelista's lawyer said. Which is all slightly confusing because she asked for $552,000 a year and some basic math (and my phone calculator) confirms that this is indeed $46,000 per month. For Augie's sake (Pinault confirmed that “he has spent little time with the boy") we hope this all gets resolved swiftly.
