When Allstate asked me to be part of their campaign to promote their new digital locker--a space online to store photos of all your insurable valuables (makes so much sense, right?)--they asked me, as the editor of Fashionista, what I would put in my digital locker. They assumed I'd pick a piece of clothing. But the thing is, I couldn't come up with one item of clothing that was so valuable to me that I'd want to insure it. That's the thing about fashion--trends come and go and I love a new dress when I first buy it and then, a few months go by, and...not so much.
It's the accessories that I wear everyday--a diamond solitaire necklace passed down from my grandmother, a bracelet I haggled for at the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul, a vintage men's watch, and a pair of bow-shaped earrings--that belong in that digital locker, I realized. They're more valuable to me not because they're expensive but because they were all given to me by people I care about and have stories behind them. Just look:
