Last night's MTV Movie Awards was a roller coaster of emotions and odd situations. There were inspirational happy tears (from Emma Stone, who collected the first-ever 'Trailblazer' award), awkward silences (c/o Kristen Stewart--who else?), juvenile penis and canine ass jokes (by host Russell Brant and presenter Andy Samberg, respectively), and even a physical threat towards an unruly audience member (via Mark Wahlberg over an inaudible comment to co-presenter Mila Kunis). All the discomfort caused some of us to wonder why, exactly, we had sacrificed watching the latest episode of Mad Men for such an emotionally distressing alternative.
That reason, of course, was the fashion. The MTV Movie Awards may not be the Oscars, but we kind of love it for that reason. It's a chance for the stars to lighten up a bit, to wear suits without bowties, for Charlize Theron to wear something other than Dior. And this year's red carpet saw some amazing choices from some of Hollywood's old faves and up-and-comers, with fewer fashion missteps than maybe ever before--though it wasn't entirely devoid. And we're grateful for that--what's fashion without fun? Or Fun (the band). They were there too.
