If there is one fashion person we'd like to hit the gym with, it is, without a doubt, Simon Doonan. So you can imagine our delight at the first installment of The Cut's new fitness series, 'Working Out With...', which follows the Barneys creative advisor at large through his daily exercise routine.
As you can imagine Doonan, who is pushing 60, is as full of energy--and zingers--as always. Clad in a fanny pack ("tres importante") and Ed Hardy t-shirt ("because you need to be ferocious"), Doonan says, "It's very important to be sassy and sexy when you go to the gym." We can't imagine a time when it's not important for Doonan to be sassy and sexy.
Doonan reveals that part of the reason he hits the gym every day is to avoid injury--and the dangers of fashion. "I got bicep tendonitis last year from carrying my Goyard man-bag," he said. "Can you believe? A fashion injury."
He also has some tips for perserving your breasts' bounciness (it involves the bench press) and dishes on the greatest regret of his life (hint: It has to do with the 1985 John Travolta and Jamie Lee Curtis movie, Perfect.)
Watch the whole video below. Simon, can we join next time?
