Raf Simons' first show for Dior was over a week ago--a veritable eternity in internet time--but that doesn't mean we're tired of hearing about it. Alina Cho, CNN's style reporter, was at the show and got some primo interviews with Raf himself, Marc Jacobs, Sidney Toledano, and Anna Wintour. We tuned into CNN International this morning to catch the spot.
Read on to hear what Anna Wintour thought of the collection, how nervous Simons was, and why the heck Sidney Toledano et al took so long to choose a successor to Galliano. Anna Wintour on Raf Simons:
He's a rock star in his own right...He brought a lightness and simplicity to it that I thought was incredibly refreshing. Nice clothes are fine, but you can find nice clothes everywhere. What Raf brings is a point of view...From what we saw I think [appointing Simons as creative director at Dior] was a brilliant choice.
Sidney Toledano on why it took a year to find Galliano's replacement:
I don't know. I have no idea. [laughs] You know it took time to find the right fit. Dior is very special.
Raf Simons on showing in front of all the top designers:
The amount of [designers present] made it very intimidating and also at the same time very scary.
Alber Elbaz, when Cho said to him, "Everyone thought for a while that this job was yours":
No, it's his. It's his and it's gorgeous!
