It's no longer enough to collaborate with one designer at a time--to really make a statement these days retailers are teaming up with multiple designers at once. (See: the massive Target/Neiman Marcus holiday designer collaboration.) And today brings yet another designer collab announcement.
EBay has wrangled Billy Reid, Chris Benz, Fallon, Jonathan Adler, Ruffian, Steven Alan and Tibi for an exclusive holiday collection, dubbing the group the "eBay Holiday Collective" according to a release. When we think of eBay and designer collabs, it's usually in the context of "Hmm, I wonder if there are any cheap Missoni x Target bikinis left on eBay." But the online marketplace has been making an effort to offer original fashion for a while now. Derek Lam did a "crowdsourced" collection for eBay, and designers like Narciso Rodriguez, Alexander Wang, and Rebecca Minkoff have all done exclusives.
This collective designed over 40 gifts, including women's and men's apparel, jewelry, accessories and home decor. Prices will range from $50 to $100 (no bidding--they're all "Buy It Now"), and US and international shipping will be free. Each designer created at least five items for the collection. In addition to the collections, each designer is compiling shoppable "wish lists" for eBay items that they're coveting, resulting in some nice cross-over marketing. Many of the designers said that they're avid fans of eBay anyway, so it seems like it was a good fit for everyone.
So will you shop eBay for holiday gifts this year?
