August isn't typically a big newsstand sales month for fashion glossies but we figure Elle should do pretty well next month. Why? It's got soon-to-be-ex-Mrs-Tom-Cruise--Katie Holmes on the cover.
Here's a peek at the cover (courtesy of Elle.com), which was shot by Carter Smith, styled by Joe Zee, and will hit newsstands on July 17. Her "sexy side" is certainly on display in that suspender and cleavage look.
The New York Post got some exclusive clips from the cover interview in which Holmes talks about entering a 'new phase'--something that will undoubtedly be read into as some kind of foreshadowing of her split to come:
“I definitely feel much more comfortable in my own skin. I feel sexier. I think in my 20s, it’s like you’re trying too hard to figure everything out . . . I’m starting to come into my own. It’s like a new phase.”
A phase that doesn't include Tom anymore. When asked about being Mrs. Tom Cruise, she said:
He has been Tom Cruise for 30 years. I know who I am and where I am and where I want to go, so I want to focus on that.
And did being Mrs. Tom Cruise make things easier for her? Nope, just the opposite:
Things are not handed to anyone. If anything, you work a little bit harder when you’re in such visible circumstances.
So besides the divorce, what else does Holmes have going on? Last week we reported that she taped an episode of Project Runway, and we said we'd love to see her make more of a name for herself as a designer. Well, that's on her agenda too.
According to WWD, Holmes and her stylist/design partner, Jeanne Yang, will stage their first-ever presentation for their line, Holmes & Yang, this September at New York Fashion Week. This Elle article ought to raise Holmes & Yang's profile as well.
