Just when we thought the fashion industry was making a shift geared toward an older audience, i-D comes out with a youth-centric issue. Come to think of it, fellow avant-garde glossy V recently had the same idea with their "Youthquake" issue. Maybe we're just moving towards extremes.
The British fashion and culture mag's "Just Kids Issue" comes with three distinct covers starring some of the industry's youngest and most easily recognizable models. Shot by the one and only Terry Richardson, the covers feature the glossy's signature one-eye-covered pose, but with a youthful twist. 18-year-old Kelly Mittendorf used a stuffed animal, 19-year-old Charlotte Free went with a big slice of pizza; while and 19-year-old Cara Delevingne chose a baseball cap. Styled by Charlotte Stockdale, the girls wear Chanel, Mulberry and Celine, respectively, and opt for technicolor nail art in lieu of heavy make-up.
We know what you're thinking. i-D really thought having Terry Richardson shoot child models was a good idea? After all that controversy? Thankfully, like we said, they are all over 18. Of course, that doesn't always necessarily mean there's no reason to worry. We'll just leave it at that...
i-D declares that "feeling youthful is finding pleasure in everything you do, whatever your age," but if you're Burberry darling Cara Delevingne, youth is more about getting away with stuff. She told the mag, "The best thing about being young is looking innocent and getting away with everything. Using my puppy dog eyes is my best trick." You don't say...
The issue hits newsstands August 9, but stay tuned to the mag's website for an inside glimpse into the issue, or click through our slideshow to see the three covers up close and personal. Do you have a fave?
