Glamour may have gotten Victoria Beckham to guest edit its September issue, but it got someone even bigger for an upcoming one: The President of the United States.
We'll admit that when we heard the women's glossy had snagged an interview with an Obama, we were surprised to learn it wasn't Michelle. The POTUS met up with EIC Cindi Leive in Portland last month for a sit-down interview for the magazine's November issue, WWD is reporting.
It wasn't easy though. Glamour's Washington editor Linda Kramer Jenning told the trade it took five months to lock down the interview, which the glossy got by pitching them on a big audience of woman voters, which she called "the calling card that opens the door."
That Obama gave Glamour an interview isn't a huge surprise when you consider the types of media outlets both he and the First Lady have worked with. WWD points out ESPN Magazine, People magazine and Entertainment Tonight and there's also The View, GQ and Vogue, to name a few.
Topics discussed included women's health care, but the interview took place before Rep. Todd Akin's "legitimate rape" fiasco.
Still, we think it's safe to say if Glamour is still down some ad pages, this should help. We also wonder if any other fashion magazines got interviews with the Prez. For instance, we'd be surprised if Wintour couldn't arrange something given her unyielding support of Obama over the years.
