The Clothes: Vibrant color took center stage at Elie Tahari with shades of lime, coral, fuchsia and orange appearing throughout. Even the darker colors like navy seemed to have contrast lining or trim. The color palette combined with softer fabrics like linen sent a tropical message that seems to be popping up throughout the spring collections. Meanwhile, glamor was in the details. There were sequin accents, laser cuts, peplums and plenty of lace all with a distinctly modern vibe. There were options for work and play: Bright shifts and lace pencil skirts for 9-5 and navy blue leather pants with a low-cut blouse for after hours. While Tahari certainly didn't present the most cutting edge collection, it's definitely commercial--something we can see real women wearing in various contexts.
The Hair & Makeup: The hair was tonged into loose, styled waves and the make-up was minimal.
The Soundtrack: Oldies including plenty of Sinatra
The Vibe: People chatted and drank champagne while eagerly awaiting the start of the presentation in an adjoining room.
The Front Row: More heavy on editors and buyers than celebs.
Celebrity We'd Most Like to See Wearing this Collection: Katy Perry would wear the acid hues, especially the high-gloss, pink raincoat.
WTF Moment:A loooong line for the elevators (the presentation was off-site) had some editors grumbling.
What the Line Sheet Said: Funnily enough, this was the second collection we've seen this season to reference photographer Slim Aaron. "Spring 2013 is youthful and flirty, reminiscent of Slim Aaron's classic photographs of the beautiful people at play, re-imagined for the modern woman."
