The Clothes: It's hard to even know where to begin, there was just so much to love at J. Crew's Spring 2013 presentation. This season, they expounded on their signature mix of quirky prints and sporty boy-meets-girl separates. There were pajama tops tucked into high-waisted trousers with white lacy detailing down the sides, a chambray button down tucked into a sequin pencil skirt and topped off with a color block baseball cap, and a neon anorak thrown over a red-and-white cocktail dress. The palette was an uplifting mix of springtime colors--hot pinks, pale peaches, soft blues as well as neons and cerulean. For spring, J. Crew reinvented their sought-after envelope clutches and shoulder bags in pastel colors and even floral prints--the shoes (pointy-toe, of course, as is de rigeur at J. Crew) were made similarly of-the-moment in pastels, and cap-toe designs. In short it was everything you'll want come spring and actually be able to wear in real life (unlike say, Marc Jacobs' super-cute but kind of impractical Mickey Mouse crop top). And because it's J. Crew it's stuff you may actually be able to afford.
The Hair & Makeup: The hair & makeup (much like the clothes) were inspired by J.Crew's perennial muse: Jenna Lyons. Hair was pulled back in a sleek pony, lips were painted orange and some models even sported square glasses like the doyenne of geek-chic herself.
The Soundtrack: Pop
The Vibe: Held at The Studio at Lincoln Center, the presentation allowed us to get up close and personal with all the gorgeous clothes--just how we like it. Just minutes before the presentation wrapped, we overheard press people whispering urgently that Solange was on her way. Solange made it just in the nick of time and got right down to business, having a mini pow-wow with Jenna and causing a minor meltdown in the girl crush centers of our brain.
The Front Row: Solange Knowles.
Celeb We’d Most Like to See Wearing It: Solange! As well as big sister Beyonce.
