The Clothes: Truth be told it was hard to focus on the clothes with Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Tyra Banks, Michelle Trachtenberg, Olivia Palermo, Abigail Spencer, and Stacey Keibler all packed into the front row. Lucky for designers Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig, their spring 2013 collection lived up to the glamour of their front row.
Slinky fringe numbers and frothy white confections (when it comes to Marchesa, there really is no better word than confection) made their way down the runway to oohs and ahhs from the audience. An embellished shift tunic worn over matching cropped ankle pants established the Indian theme that ran through the collection. The sari-inspired dresses were to die for: Gorgeous pink, turquoise and berry numbers with swaths of ethereally draped fabric, finely embroidered with gold. The Marchesa girls also put forward a pretty daring (questionable?) concept seemingly inspired by the East: crop tops for the red carpet. These were high-neck, fitted affairs with loads of gold embellishment, paired with loose flowy, transparent skirts. While we're not sure there'll be too many celebrities daring enough to rock this particular style (we guess Stacy Keibler does have the abs for it), the flowy asymmetrical gowns and the square-necked fitted numbers will no doubt be a hit with the Hollywood crowd. And the stunning white gowns might even make their way onto the back of a Hollywood bride soon--were they, dare we say, an audition of sorts for Kim and Kanye's alleged upcoming nuptials? For what it's worth, we think she'd look gorgeous in the closing fitted white lace gown, modeled by 90s supermodel Carolyn Murphy in the show.
The Hair & Makeup: Hair was parted in the middle and pulled back into a sleek pony, with skinny braids running in creative curves along the sides. The inner corners of the eyes were flecked with gold, with liquid eyeliner on the lower lash line.
The Soundtrack: An Indian-inspired mix featuring both traditional-sounding Indian music and M.I.A.'s "Bad Girls."
The Vibe: Held at the Vanderbilt Hall in Grand Central, the scene outside was pure mayhem. A-list celebrities arrived in big black SUVs, camerean aggressively angled massive video cameras, industry people tried to cram their way in--all while the regular 42nd Street crowd of bewildered commuters angrily pushed their way through the scene. Once inside, however, it was all gilded gold chairs and tall ceilings: A setting as glamorous as the collection.
The Front Row: Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Tyra Banks, Michelle Trachtenburg, Olivia Palermo, Abigail Spencer, and Stacey Keibler.
Celebrity We'd Most Like to See Wearing It: Blake Lively, Kim Kardashian, Freida Pinto
