The Clothes: Kate Spade's spring vision is highly stylized and in full technicolor. There were plenty of references to the 80s, mostly in the way the looks were accessorized, like glossy pink pumps worn with ankle socks. There was no shortage of the signature girly, uptown elements: bows, tweed and nipped waists. But there is no denying that the Kate Spade girl is a bit cheeky this season. Tee shirts added a youthful twist to streamlined skirts, and both colors and prints made bold statements as they clashed together.
The Hair & Makeup: Fairly minimal except for bold, blue eyeshadow, one of the many nods to the 80s throughout the presentation. Hair was pulled back with pompadour curls on the top of the head. The highlight was the gingham manicures by Deborah Lippmann.
The Vibe: An energetic combo of publicist and media chatter, waiters with platters of breakfast canapes, and Bravo's camera crew filming It's a Brad Brad World
The Front Row: Lauren Conrad.
The WTF moment: When a publicist ran backstage exclaiming, "a model is about to faint! I need water!"
Celebrity We'd Most Like to See Wearing this Collection: Lana Del Ray.
What the designer said: Deborah Lloyd told us, "I think there is a nod to the 80s, but it is under control this time around. It's more of a florescent shoe or a pop of color or a crazy sunglasses. There is also a hint to the 50s and 60s, like always. The accessories are very fun this season and a definite punctuation point. Our girl is younger and more adventurous than ever. She has more edge now, and that is really exciting."
