Barbie may be the go-to popular plastic doll for fashion collaborations in the U.S., but in Paris next week, it's going to be all about Strawberry Shortcake, or Charlotte aux Fraises, as she's known in the city of lights.
She's going to Paris Fashion Week and she's traded in her signature floppy hat and green and white striped stockings for a wardrobe of one-of-a-kind pieces by the likes of Sonia Rykiel, Cacharel and Alexis Mabille.
A charity called Ce Ke du Conheur, whose proceeds help improve the quality of life of hospitalized children and adolescents, partnered with the childhood icon on a very fancy trip to Paris Fashion Week. They sent Strawberry Shortcake dolls to select French designers asking them to create special outfits for her. Other participating designers include Stella Cadente, Marithe and Francois Girbaud, Antik Batik, Fifi Chachnil and Nathalie Garcon.
The dolls and their outfits will be on display at l’Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture (the School of the Union Chamber of Couture) during Paris Fashion Week September 25-October 3 and then auctioned off with proceeds going to Ce Ke du Conheur. So if you're going to be in Paris then, we strongly suggest you make a bid! French designers + nostalgic toys + charity = something we can definitely get behind.
