Well that was fast. With the exception of Gwyneth Paltrow's mysterious Hedi Slimane-designed handbag, it seems Lady Gaga is the first celebrity to don a full look from the spring 2013 Saint Laurent collection which debuted on the runway exactly one week ago (can you believe how much s**t has gone down in a week?).
The all-black, '70s YSL-inspired look is a bit more monotone and mainstream than what we're used to seeing Gaga in, but her support of Hedi Slimane comes as no surprise at all. As you'll recall, the outspoken pop star retweeted Slimane's now-infamous (and non-existent) open letter to Cathy Horyn, and praised his collection, Tweeting, “Monsters, check out @hedislimanetwit garments for YSL this season … a true punk visionary. Modern, forward, LA VERITE.”
Also worth noting: Gaga wore the look to visit another controversial rebel, Julian Assange. Apparently, after tweeting about her Harrod's fragrance launch appearance, rapper MIA tweeted at her that Julian Assange was across the street at the Ecuadorian embassy and that she should go visit him, so she did, and here is photographic evidence, in which she is wearing the same outfit.
To clarify, YSL, whom we've reached out to, has not yet confirmed that the look is indeed Saint Laurent (or that they lent it to her specifically for her Assange visit), but the jacket and skirt appear identical to those pictured above.
Update: A rep from YSL confirmed that the skirt, jacket and skirt are all indeed Saint Laurent by Hedi Slimane. The hat (that was too big for her and fell on the ground) is not.
