As the ugly legal battle between Chris and Tory Burch heats up, Anna Wintour and Diane von Furstenberg have spoken out to take Tory's side.
In this month's Vanity Fair, Chris Burch opened up about his attempt to sell shares in the company he helped found and the lawsuit which seeks to remove Tory from the board of her own company. In the interview with VF's Vanessa Grigoriadis, he reiterates what he's said over and over: that Tory Burch (the company) wouldn't exist without him and that C.Wonder is not a blatant rip-off.
DVF and Anna Wintour beg to differ and had a few choice words for Mr. Burch.
“It’s not just credit. Everyone takes credit—that doesn’t really matter,” von Furstenberg told Vanity Fair. “What I find bizarre and nasty, and can’t possibly finish well for him, is that he is...hurting [her business] by sabotaging it, by copying it. I don’t understand.”
Anna Wintour, never one to mince words, is firmly in Tory's corner, too, telling the magazine:
The person who has been at every single appointment over the years is Tory. Tory is the one who has always talked to us about her aspirations, and her ideas for growth, how she saw the brand, asked advice on people she might want to bring in—it’s always been, as far as we’re concerned, 100 percent Tory’s business, and we’ve never had anything to do with Chris.
So we won't expect to see C.Wonder merch in Vogue anytime soon, then.
