Rumors about an Yves Saint Laurent biopic starring French actor and model Gaspard Ulliel have been swirling for a couple of days, and now WWD finally seems to have solid confirmation about the project.
According to the trade, the biopic is to be called Saint Laurent, and it will indeed star Ulliel in the title role. We can't wait to see the handsome Ulliel, who is also the face of Chanel's men's fragrance Blue, in a pair of oversized square specs.
The film's producer Eric Altmayer said that Bertrand Bonello would direct and co-write the film, alongside Thomas Bidegain. Bonello's last film House of Tolerance debuted at Cannes in 2011, while Bidegain's recent projects include Rust and Bone and A Prophet. Basically, we have a bunch of talented French men on the project, and based on their past work we can expect a serious and thoughtful exploration of Saint Laurent's life.
But there's another French man who perhaps deserves some credit for making this happen--at least when it comes to the casting. French artist Pascal Witaszek, who is famous for creating fake movie posters (one he did for a faux Walt Disney biopic starring Ryan Gosling fooled a bunch of people) recently made this one for a movie called M. Saint Laurent and starring none other than Ulliel, posing as a very convincing naked Saint Laurent. Coincidence?
