Here's some great news for anyone who wants to smell like the inside of a fast food place, or wishes they could get that just-baked pizza delivery smell without an actual, you know, pizza: Pizza Hut is launching a pizza-scented fragrance. Seriously.
If this sounds like a joke to you, that's because the whole concept started out as one. According to The Huffington Post, Grip Limited, an advertising firm that works with Pizza Hut Canada, posted the following question to its Facebook fans in August as an apparent tongue-in-cheek joke: "Do you love the smell of a box of Pizza Hut pizza being opened? We thought so. If that smell was a perfume, what would it be called?"
But the response was so strong that Pizza Hut decided to go ahead and make the fragrance--albeit in very limited quantities--and send bottles to the first 100 Facebook fans who had commented.
According to Grip Limited's managing director, Adam Luck, who spoke to Marketing Magazine, the perfume will smell "like dough with a little bit of seasoning added."
"We discovered it was hard to match the smell of freshly baked bread, but it smells somewhat close," said Pizza Hut’s director of marketing, Beverly D'Cruz, adding that the new perfume was more about entertainment than smell. She added that one "could also spray the perfume around a room to make it smell like pizza." Yes one could--but think how disappointed you'd be if you walked into a delicious-smelling-pizza room only to find that there was no pizza to be had.
And lest you forget, this is the second fast food fragrance to be released--Burger King tried to launch one a few years ago, called Flame, which unsurprisingly didn't exactly get off the ground. We really hope three doesn't make this a trend soon...
