Murray Hill: home to bro bars, trendy Thai restaurants, residential high rises containing young upwardly mobile professionals, and...Comme des Garcons?
WWD is reporting that Comme des Garcons-owned Dover Street Market, whose London and Tokyo locations are beloved by fashion fans and Rei die-hards, will open their first NYC location on 30th & Lexington in one of NYC's least fashionable neighborhoods. Wikipedia even describes Murray Hill real estate as "slightly cheaper than in fashionable nearby parts of Manhattan."
But that's Rei Kawakubo for ya. Comme des Garcons' NYC store is hidden on an otherwise desolate (except for a Balenciaga store and a couple galleries) block in Chelsea.
It sounds like this store will be hard to miss, though. It will be seven floors, housed in a former school that WWD describes as an "imposing classical-style building."
We can't wait to see what the CDG team does with the space, and if other fashion retailers will end up following their lead and setting up shop in Murray Hill.
