This year, Rihanna made her first forays into both fashion design and television in the U.K. The pop star executive produced a Project Runway-style reality show called Styled to Rock, in which contestants created stage outfits for celebrities and musicians, with the winner getting to design a look for Rihanna herself.
The show was co-hosted by it-Brits Nicola Roberts (from Girls Aloud) and designer Henry Holland and aired on U.K. network Sky, so we sadly never got to see it. Luckily, we just learned that Styled to Rock is being redeveloped for US audiences and will air on the Style Network sometime next year.
According to a release, Rihanna will both executive produce and star in the show, which will essentially have the same premise as the UK version. She'll "personally select the 12 designers who will compete for the coveted opportunity to dress some of the biggest names in entertainment." Each week, there will be a different celebrity guest judge for whom the contestants will design an outfit. A nationwide casting call begins today.
In addition to celebs, it sounds like we'll be seeing some fashion industry personalities on the show, as Rihanna will also "enlist the guidance of top experts from the fashion industry to serve as mentors."
“Fashion has always played an integral part in my life and career,” said Rihanna. “I am so excited to partner with Style Network and share my creative insight with these 12 designers and give them this opportunity to showcase their work.’
To be honest, I never really watch the Style Network, mostly because I have know idea what channel it's on, but now I'm so curious about Rihanna's hosting skills and the mysterious fashion industry mentors. I think I'm going to have to find out.
