Dutch designer Iris van Herpen showed another haunting and innovative couture collection in Paris Monday amidst rumors that she may have the honor of designing Katniss Everdeen's wedding dress for this fall's Catching Fire, the second Hunger Games installment.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, van Herpen is "involved in designing at least one costume" for the film and rumor has it it's the wedding dress. In the book, there are actually two wedding dresses-one is a more traditional white (but still pretty crazy-sounding) and the other, also known as the "mockingjay dress," is "color of coal and made of tiny feathers" and appears to have wings when Katniss lifts her arms. It also becomes engulfed in smoke when she spins around.
Herpen would be absolutely perfect for the job--her structural, futuristic aesthetic is very Capitol-esque. Only she's not doing it. We've reached out to Herpen's PR and they confirm that she is not working with the film or any of the actresses.
Just look at all these fantastical creations that would have been so perfect for Katniss.
