And next? Dallas. As in Dallas, Texas. As our editor-at-large Tweeted yesterday from the WWD CEO Summit, where Lagerfeld was interviewed by WWD's Bridget Foley, "Oooh, Karl Lagerfeld wants to do one of his upcoming shows in DALLAS! Get excited, @neimanmarcus."
Indeed, Lagerfeld said he chose the location in appreciation of the support Dallas-based luxury department store Neiman Marcus gave Chanel when the house reopened after WWII. "When Chanel reopened, the French press was beyond nasty. The only press that understood it immediately was the American press," he said at the event. "So I think it's a nice thing to go there." Lagerfeld also wanted to do "the opposite" of last year's extravagant Scottish castle show. Plus, he says, "I love Texas. I love Texans."
In a way, Texas makes sense. Everything is bigger there, right? And no one does fashion shows (or hula hoop bags) bigger than Karl. We're especially curious what this means for the aesthetic of the collection. Hopefully, we'll finally get to see Chanel's take on the cowboy boot/hat.
