After much speculation as to where ex-Elle style director (and constant street style bait) Kate Lanphear would end up after leaving the glossy a few months ago, it looks like we finally have an answer.
Earlier today fashion journalist Jim Shi tweeted the following: "Kate Lanphear has joined T: The New York Times Style Magazine as style director. She'll be at the upcoming women's shows with Team T."
Shortly afterward T Magazine retweeted it--which is as close to a confirmation as you can get in the Twittersphere.
Lanphear reportedly tried out for the WSJ EIC position back in September, and since leaving Elle we've heard several rumors about where she would go--including to new magazine Editorialist as well as a possible position at T. Obviously, the latter turned out to be true.
Lanphear is only the latest in a long string of hires from T's new EIC Deborah Needleman. Needleman left WSJ for T in September, replacing Sally Singer who had been ousted from the magazine in August.
A few months ago, Needleman told WWD of her new hires, "I felt like I’m remaking this magazine and I needed my own team." No doubt Lanphear will add some of her signature edge to the magazine's makeover--and she'll also provide a face to gawk at when the the T team descends on fashion week next month.
We've reached out to T and are waiting for further confirmation and comment.
