We have no confirmation of this whatsoever. But. Grazia heard a juicy rumor that Alexander Wang won't be the only fresh meat at Balenciaga. Wang's friend and fan Carine Roitfeld, who just seems to be lining up jobs left and right lately, may be joining him there as a stylist.
We'd imagine it as a Marc Jacobs/Katie Grand type of relationship. It would certainly generate lots of buzz (not that Wang can't do that on his own). And, if this is true, it would be a little bit of a hint for what we can expect aesthetically from the new Balenciaga. Namely, sex appeal and that French je ne sais quois.
Plus, they'll both have a travel buddy while going back and forth between Paris and New York, where Roitfeld operates CR Fashion Book. Funnily enough, both Wang and Balenciaga are advertisers and will likely appear next to each other in the magazine, where ads are in alphabetical order by brand. “It’s better to be Alexander Wang than Balenciaga,” Roitfeld told WWD back in September.
The rumored hire is also pretty ironic, considering Roitfeld and the rest of Vogue Paris team were banned by Balenciaga in 2010, after Roitfeld allegedly sent one of the label's samples to Max Mara (where she was a consultant at the time) and the sample was subsequently copied.
Of course, since then the label and the influential editrix have kissed and made up--perhaps enough to officially work together.
Again: Just a rumor. But one we kind of like the sound of. Do you?
We've reached out to Balenciaga and will update when we hear back.
Update: We've just got word from a very reliable source that this rumor is 100% untrue. Shucks.
