Hot on the heels of dressing Jessica Chastain, Naomi Watts and Quvenzhané Wallis for the Oscars, Giorgio Armani showed his fall 2013 collection for his mainline. All we could think about was: Are there some future Oscars gown in the mix?
As it turns out, yes, there were. Towards the end: Gorgeous column maxi dresses with velvet or sequin detailing and deep v-necks. As Armani proved on Oscar night, and again at his collection show, the man is a master in refined, figure-flattering eveningwear.
Elsewhere the collection was a little harder to pin down. Armani stuck to a palette of mostly black, grey, navy and cream. As with his Emporio collection, there was a whiff of the 1920s in the silhouettes and styling of the collection.
It was mostly menswear-inspired looks--loose velvet, silk, or twill pants paired with structured blazers or filmy turtlenecks. Some of my favorite looks were the daywear dresses, so it's a shame there weren't more of them. The navy ankle-length frock with puff sleeves and velvet polka dots was superb.
