When I arrived at the Honor presentation (she usually does a proper runway show) at Eyebeam, the room was dark and all I could see was a big screen on which a runway show was playing and I became extremely angry, thinking I had trekked to west Chelsea just to watch a video. Fortunately, after a couple of minutes, a live runway show with real models began and I had inadvertently nabbed a front row spot to see Giovanna Randall's unsurprisingly beautiful clothes up close.
Only Randall could put hearts all over her collection and make it look more elegant than stupid. Heart-shaped jewels adorned super chic capelets, and a few peter pan collars and dress bodices in a way that was a bit fall 2012 Prada-esque. Even so, I could not help but swoon. It was all so sweet and charming and beautifully-executed and who doesn't love pink on pink and heart-shaped cut outs?!
There was more than just sweet, though. Metallic jacquard, which we've been seeing a lot of this week, was done beautifully in pink and black. Silhouettes were mod and uncomplicated, but Randall's signature--unexpected details--brought intrigue and originality. They included abstract heart cut-outs that created a quirky collar effect, as well as abstract heart-shaped color-blocking that wasn't cutesy at all.
I left happy, not angry.
