There was more anticipation than usual leading up to last night's Marc by Marc show, held at the time slot originally intended for Marc Jacobs's collection show, which was postponed after materials got stuck overseas due to the blizzard. Perhaps we were all eager for any Marc Jacobs by day five of fashion week, and "little" Marc would have to tide us over until Thursday's "big" Marc show.
And, of course, Jacobs delivered.
Forget what you heard about the '70s being on the wane: Jacobs loves the decade and is feeling it again for Marc by Marc's fall 2013 collection. The styling said it loud and clear: Guido Palau created enormous fluffy teased-out, perm-like manes for the models while Dick Page painted on the perfect glossy red wine lip.
But this Marc by Marc girl isn't going to Studio 54. She looked more like she was going to work. Dresses and skirt suits were office-appropriate with longer hemlines and three-quarter length sleeves. Turtleneck tops and knits were tucked into high-waisted high-water palazzo pants.
Of course, even when she's at the office, the Marc by Marc girl is no shrinking violet. Prints were bold and colors were loud: A blindingly bright poppy orange knit and skirt combo was paired with a maroon coat; a colorful leaf print covered a royal blue jumpsuit worn by Cara Delevingne. So when the work-a-day life feels soul-sucking, there's always Marc by Marc. Just make sure you pack a lunch so you can afford it.
