It's become the norm that after a launch party for a designer collaboration, pieces available at the "pre-shop" end up on eBay within hours. The Prabal Gurung collection for Target, set to hit stores on February 10, is no exception.
Earlier this week Target held a launch party for the collection in NYC, and now there are about 40 pieces on eBay, with two days to go before the collection hits stores. This falls somewhere in between the Margiela x H&M collection which had over 100 pieces up on eBay following a launch party where editors could "pre-shop" the collection, and Jason Wu for Target, which had a relatively sane 19 listings.
The prices, while inflated, don't seem too ridiculous yet. The most expensive item is the blue leather jacket, which retails for $199. We see two listings with "Buy It Now" prices of $399. The most egregious mark up is on a Nolita print minaudiere, which retails for $34.99 and is listed for $179.
Anyway, we're rather heartened that there aren't more pieces listed on the auction site. Are people getting a conscience and realizing it's tacky to do this, or is the collection just so cute that people are keeping it? Either way, we recommend you wait until Sunday to try your luck at getting those sweatshirts, floral print shorts, and lime green strappy sandal heels. Don't feed the black market eBay beast!
