For fall 2013, David and Phillipe Blond, the wacky design duo behind The Blonds, who've outfitted everyone from Gaga to Rihanna, introduced the world to the "Slasher Sashay," a collection in which models looked every bit the deranged (yet very chic) killer.
The looks were what we've come to expect from the duo: odd, over-the-top, jewel encrusted and corset happy. But there were a few items that surprised us. The knife earrings, quirky in a good way, and the adorable knife-print A-line dress put a wearable spin on the design duo's typically madcap aesthetic. A dress, which featured a Jack Nicholson print from The Shining, was demented yet beautiful--perfect for The Blonds girl on Valentine's Day.
The true winners from the show included a faux chinchilla jumpsuit, a white fur straitjacket with luxe golden locks, and a dress made completely of white belts.
Though the ensembles did make us take a second, third, and fourth look we noticed how the crowd (including us) was underwhelmed and disappointed when the show ended abruptly. We've come to expect multiple looks in many layers and dimensions from The Blonds. This season it seemed a little meager in the offering.
Nonetheless, we still walked away satisfied at having enjoyed the kind of show that only The Blonds could put on: loud, fun, and yes, a little crazy.
