Let this be a lesson for online retailers: If you hear Kate Middleton has purchased one of your products, make sure your site can handle a crazy traffic surge.
Middleton stopped by Topshop last week, where she reportedly snapped up a dress by Lovestruck, which, while not technically a maternity dress, has an elastic waistband to allow for baby growth. Plus, thrifty Middleton will still be able to wear it post-baby if she wants to.
News of Middleton's purchase broke yesterday and by 2pm the same day Lovestruck had experienced over 60,000 hits, according to the Telegraph. Lovestruck reported selling, at one point, a dress per minute, followed unsurprisingly by its site crashing. They are now accepting pre-orders and plan to release more next week.
Of course, this isn't the first time this has happened and it surely won't be the last as long as Middleton continues her love affair with the high street.
We do wonder if Middleton's baby will have an "effect" of her own. Yes, her. Apparently, Middleton maybe sort of accidentally spilled the beans on the baby's gender to some fans earlier today. Of course, we're all secretly hoping it's a girl. Unless she plans on dressing him like Skyler Berman, a little boy's wardrobe isn't going to give us nearly as much to talk about.
