The 5 Commandments of Editor Style
We're not exactly sure how it happens (is a memo sent out or something?) but each season there's always a few key pieces or amazing style tricks that all the editors are sporting during fashion month. It's almost as if they adhere to a set of rules--or commandments if you will. Click through for our roundup of the five commandments of editor style this season--from white shoes to the editor's cape--and find out how you can get the look, too.
Editor Style Commandment #1: Thou Shalt Wear Your Coat as a Cape
Who knew arm holes were obsolete these days? The 'editor's cape' has been going strong for several seasons on the street style season (we wrote about it in 2010) and shows no signs of abating. Even during a Milan blizzard, editors wore their coats as capes!
How to Get the Look
You can pretty much do this with any kind of jacket, but it looks best with a simply-tailored shape and clean lines. AKA don't try it with a parka/anorak, fur coat, or puffer jacket.
Practicality be damned, editors carried their purses (clutches or not) in their hands--all the better for a very Tommy Ton-worthy close-up snap, with ring and arm parties in play.
How to Get the Look
Give your purse an instant update by forgetting all about its practical strap. It works best with messenger-style bags. If you're into clutches, this season was all about unstructured, floppy versions.
It seems like every editor topped her look off with a beanie (bonus points if it was neon, or from Supreme) at least once this season. It kept everyone's heads warm--and made editors easy to spot in a crowd.
How to Get the Look
Throw a beanie on to finish off your otherwise-polished look for a cool streetwear slant.
The more texture and color, the better.
