When Julia Restoin-Roitfeld had her baby, Romy, she evidently gave birth to more than just a child, but also a wealth of baby-related business ideas.
Now officially one of the coolest, hottest moms around, Restoin-Roitfeld is generously sharing her secrets to being that way--at least that's the GOOP-y idea behind her mommy blog "Romy and the Bunnies," on which she shares illustrations of Romy (no actual photos allowed) in cute outfits, favorite products (for mother and baby), and interviews with other stylish moms. But she's not stopping there.
In an interview with the New York Post, she said she intends to start a maternity line (kind of a far cry from old rumors she was launching a lingerie line), in addition to adding e-commerce to Romy and the Bunnies. “Your body changes through the whole nine months. I’d like to be able to create a line that adapts to your body as you grow, and that you can maybe still wear after.”
Chances are it will be a little sexy, too: “It’s no secret I like to dress a bit sexy and body conscious, and as soon as I was pregnant, it was like it was not appropriate to dress the way that I dress. And that really annoyed me, in a way,” she says. “It’s a wrong message that dressing feminine and sexy and being a mother can’t go together.”
Something she must have learned from her own mother. Another piece of advice from Carine (who has yet to babysit Romy)? Hire help. “The best tip my mother gave me is, "A rested mother is a better mother. Don’t feel guilty if you have a day to yourself.'"
As for her blog's e-commerce component, perhaps it will include custom baby items from family friends like (new dad) Tom Ford, Alexander Wang, and Riccardo Tisci, all of whom showered Romy with gifts.
Tom Ford gave me high heels for the baby. They’re a little kitten heel with a velvet rope that you tie. It’s like a collection piece. I have to put it on the bookshelf, framed. I got leather diaper pants from Alexander Wang. And I got an amazing Givenchy shirt from Riccardo [Tisci] and this you can wear. It’s from the season with the black panther.
Then it hit us: What if Romy and Tom Ford's baby, Jack, ended up together? Finally--the Roitfelds and Fords, together as one ridiculously glamorous and well-dressed family. It needs to happen.
