Donna Karan presented her resort collection on a very rainy morning earlier this week. The rain held up several important editors so Karan charmingly ad-libbed before the informal show. While resort may sound like a collection that's made for rich people who can afford to take glamorous vacations, Karan reminded us that it's actually the season that stays on the racks the longest. "So pieces of resort just kind of bleed into your wardrobe," Karan explained.
With that in mind, Karan presented a sexy, long and lean collection fittingly called the "L Word" (no relation to the Showtime series). Other "L" words Karan came up with while trying to kill time included "languid, light, linear, liquid"--all apt descriptors for the bias-cut satin and jersey evening dresses and the flow-y one-shouldered tunics worn over palazzo pants that comprised Karan's resort collection. I especially liked two wrapped jersey numbers--a pantsuit and a cocktail dress--that had these cool built in capes. It may have been raining outside but it felt like an expensive summer vacation in Karan's atelier. And for a summer styling tip try wearing just one dangly fancy earring--all Karan's models wore one very long gold tassel-like earring and it looked awesome.
