One of the things we've always loved about Love has been its ability to balance a playful, not-so-serious attitude towards fashion with a reverence for the industry's designers and models--and lots of tech savvy.
This is exemplified by the British glossy's new fifth anniversary issue, which pays homage to--who else--Minnie Mouse. The Disney character, who was under the fashion spotlight pretty recently as part of the Barneys holiday campaign last year, not only covers the issue, but is featured on Love's website in a crazy, interactive Minnie Mouse world where the cursor is basically a Minnie Mouse hand and you can grab and click on things to reveal more adorable images. It's fun.
Plus, the magazine commissioned luxury brands including Gucci, Miu Miu, Prada and Louis Vuitton to create their own interpretations of Minnie's iconic mouse ears for models Edie Campbell, Cara Delevingne, Georgia May Jagger, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Chiharu Okunugi to wear on alternate covers.
Editor-in-Chief Katie Grand said the inspiration for this latest theme came from Instagram:
As work began on this issue, that famous Herb Ritts shot of Madonna popped up on my Instagram feed, the one where she’s in bed wearing the Minnie Mouse ears. There was something about that look – knowing, but genuine, and genuinely sweet – that got me thinking. And I’ve always been a big fan of Minnie's style and that polka-dot bow. So we set about getting my favourite girls in Minnie Mouse ears that had been enhanced by the likes of Miu Miu and Jake and Dinos Chapman for Louis Vuitton. But that wasn’t enough; we had to get Minnie Mouse herself in on the act too. So she flew across the Atlantic all the way from Disneyworld to a studio in North London so we could shoot her for the cover.
Minnie won't be the only animal featured in issue 10, though. You'll also find a full-grown lion, shot alongside Edie Campbell and Karen Elson by Tim Walker.
